In 2007 there were approximately 12 Alpaca Owners and Breeders in the State of Louisiana according to the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA). Lousiana Alpaca Ranches are represented by TxOLAN and the Deep South Alpaca Connection which reprepresents Alpaca Farms and Alpaca Ranches in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Louisiana is host to The LA Deep South Alpaca Show which occurs in November.
