Welcome to Heart of Texas Alpacas.  We are a Texas Alpaca ranch located just east of Austin on 35 acres presently home to over 30 Alpacas.  We began our journey in late 2004 and have found the business of Alpaca ranching to be fun, interesting, and rewarding.  We have found the investment opportunities to be better than the stock market, the business aspect has been financially rewarding.  A recent article in the Wall Street Journal talked about Alpacas as investments.  You can see it  here .

If you decide to raise Alpacas for profit, there are some great tax benefits.  Alpacas purchased for business use qualify for a section 179 tax deduction.  In addition, most expenses related to an Alpaca breeding business are tax deductible, and in many cases your property taxes can be lower because of "Agricultural Exemption" on your land.  These benefits vary based on many factors, so make sure to talk to your accountant.

As an added benefit, we have found the "Alpaca Lifestyle" to be wonderful.  As former "City Dwellers", living in the country is a dream come true.  We find it very relaxing to watch our Alpacas graze and play in the pastures.  The "youngsters" run and jump as if they are playing tag.  It's truly a fascinating experience.

We still have much to do in 2008 as we prepare for the New Year.  Our fall  "Crias" (baby Alpacas) have begun arriving, and our fall breeding season is already underway.  For those of you in the business you know how exciting it is to have a beautiful baby Alpaca come into this world.  If you are thinking of joining the thousands of Alpaca Owners and Breeders in the country, this is one of the joys of Alpaca ownership!

We've had a lot of activity around the ranch this fall, hosting one FFA group and two Girl Scout groups to see, touch, and learn about Alpacas.  This is yet another reason we love this business.  The looks and sounds of children, and their parents, when they first meet an Alpaca are heartwarming.
